Announcements:

-Be sure to look over your child’s Insect Project information packet. This is where you will find the details of what they will be graded on, how to build their insect model, what requirements there are for the written portion and for the in-class oral presentation. You will see a helpful word bank that can help them to choose more interesting words for their written report. You will also see a “research sheet” this is perfect for collecting information about the insect in complete sentences. Those complete sentences can then be synthesized into a more formal and neat written report. We will model this process in class as well with a sample insect. Feel free to approach your teacher with any questions.

-We have our second round of Galileo testing this week! Please be sure to have your child to school on time on Tuesday and Wednesday having eaten a healthy breakfast so they can be fully prepared to do their best.

-As the weather (and our classrooms) becomes cooler, school dress code states that students may wear a Cicero uniform sweater/sweatshirt or a solid navy sweater inside (no hoodies, please).  They may wear other types of jackets and sweatshirts outside at recess.  Many students have been cold, so please send them with a sweater.  Consider pants instead of shorts, or jumpers/skirts with tights or navy leggings.

-Snacks! Please send your student with multiple healthful snacks and a lunch to help him or her be successful throughout the day in the classroom.  We have noticed that students who have highly-processed and sugary meals have difficulty concentrating in class and regulating behavior, especially in the afternoon.

-Reading groups continue this week, and students should be reading their leveled readers out loud with parents 15-20 minutes every night. Please send books back to school on Mondays and Thursdays. Remember to record your child’s reading time in their planners! Please consider volunteering to read with 2A on Thursday mornings as they are very short on volunteers. We will not have reading groups this Thursday due to Galileo testing.

Great Hearts Parent Education Night
Topic: Stress & Coping in Students
When: November 18th
Where: Scottsdale Preparatory Academy
Time: 6pm-7pm
Ages: All are welcome- will be applicable for k-12th
Information: What is stress? What does it look like during different developmental stages? This informational presentation will provide information on what is “typical” for students, and how stress can affect a students daily life. We will look at how environmental factors can play a part, as well explore constructive coping skills that parents can teach their students in order to build a resilient child. The goal is to increase knowledge about stress and coping, provide insight into symptoms, and build skills to support our scholars in managing their feelings.
Thank you all.,
Lauren Katz, Director of School Counseling

The students will review nouns, verbs and the parts of a complete sentence. In writing we will continue to work on copywork and dictation. Students are now encouraged to spell all their words correctly in dictation, as many of the words are those we have covered in Spalding.
