Announcements:
The study guide for the history test went home last week on Thursday. We will review the study guide on Tuesday prior to the test.
We will not have reading groups this week because we don’t have school on Monday and Thursday morning is the K-2 concert. Reading groups will resume Thursday after Fall Break.
Fall Break is October 5-14. Tag, you’re it!

We will finish reading Cricket in Times Square.

This week we will read and discuss Some One, by Walter de la Mare, and “There Was A Little Girl”.

Reading groups continue this week, and students should be reading out loud with parents 20-30 minutes every night. Please send book bags back to school on Mondays and Thursdays.
September 24th - Chili’s Fundraiser 11am-10pm @ 8991 E Talking Stick Way. Go to Chili’s and mention our school fundraiser and 15% of your bill will be donated to Cicero!

This week we will begin 2 and 3 digit subtraction with renaming. Please continue to practice math facts at home with your scholar

|
We will continue reading Cricket in Times Square this week.

Poetry
|
We will continue practicing Hurt No Living Thing and begin recitations on Thursday.

Language Arts
|
Students will continue to work on copywork, dictation, and narration. They will also continue their work on common and proper nouns.

Spalding
|
This week we will continue learning new words in Spalding. We will learn 10 new words on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We will review on Thursday and test on Friday.

Science
|
This week we will finish up our Water Cycle unit and review for a quiz. Students will be expected to draw and label the 3 stages of the water cycle, understand what happens to water during the processes of evaporation, condensation and precipitation, know the three states of matter and what water is in those three states, and understand clouds.
|
History & Geography
|
Students will learn about the numerous inventions of the Chinese, including the invention and production of silk. They will also compare and contrast the Chinese New Year with that celebrated in the US. A review for the China test will go home on Thursday.

Announcements:
Our school is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair on Tuesday, September 17th to Thursday, September 19nd. There will be a wide variety of fun books and novelty items available.
If you choose to let your student shop and choose their books during this time, please send money with them that day. The fair accepts cash, credit and checks. Prices range from $3 to $20, depending on the content. Please remember that there WILL BE tax added to all purchases, so take this into account when sending money with your child.
Children are NOT required to make any purchases, and the fair will have free bookmarks available for those students who are unable to buy any items.
The fair is open at 7:20 each morning for before school shopping and after school release for about an hour.
This week we will continue reading The Cricket in Times Square Please send the book with your student if you have not already.

The students will review common and proper nouns and continue discussing action verbs. We will do a narration exercise, copywork, and dictation.

|
This week we will continue learning new words in Spalding. We will learn 10 new words on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will review on Thursday and test on Friday.

Science
|
This week we will learn more about the water cycle. We will talk about the states of matter, stages of the water cycle and the types of clouds.

History & Geography
|
This week we will begin our unit on Ancient China.
